Rick Ferencz - Charter Representative

Rick is a Founding Member of Troop 529. He has many years in Scouting.  He was Scout Master when his own boys went through the program  He has training in Committee Leadership, Eagle Counselor, Youth Protection, Virtus, Religious Awards, outdoor leadership, first aid, and Merit Badge Counselor.

He is a member of St. Benedict Parish and lives on IOP with his wife Sandy and  their dog.

Mr. Sean O'Toole - Founder - Committee Chair

Sean works for Hapag-Lloyd, the fifth largest container line in the world.  He has worked for them for over 15 years and is currently their Senior Port Operations Manager in the Port of Charleston.  He has served on boards of the Maritime Association of South Carolina (MASC) and the Propeller Club of the Port of Charleston.   He is currently a trustee for the National Transportation Week (NTW) an organization that awards scholarships annually to students interested in or associated with the transportation industry.  He works with the Seafarers Society of the Port of Charleston which is dedicated to serving the needs of the seaman that call the port and the waterfront community as a whole.          

He has been married for 24 years to Molly from Sullivan’s Island.  They have three children: Catherine, Killian, and Rory. They are members of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he serves or has served as a lector, usher, and a religious education teacher.   He is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  He attended Bishop England High School, the College of Charleston, and received an MBA from the Citadel.  


He is a Founding Member of Troop 529 and Scout Master for 4 years. He was involved with scouting when he was young in San Diego, CA and when he returned to the Charleston Area.  As an adult he has been involved for over 15 years.  He has held numerous leadership positions in Cub Scouting including Cubmaster for Pack 505 in Mount Pleasant and Assistant Cubmaster for Pack 4900 in Atlanta. He has completed all leader specific training including Scoutmaster  as well as Basic Outdoor Leadership Orientation (BALOO), Trainer Development Conference,  Merit Badge Counselor Orientation,  Safe Swim Defense, Youth protection and Virtus Training, earned his Wood Badge beads.  He is certified in CPR and First Aid and Wilderness First Aid


He served in the US Naval Reserves for eight years.  He studied the martial arts and received a black belt in Shaolin-Kempo Karate, an orange in Ho Shin Do Karate, and a white in Brazilian Jujitsu.  He is a certified SCUBA diver, received Advanced Open Water training, and has done cavern and cave diving. He is an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying fishing, hunting and water sports.  He has experience canoeing and whitewater rafting, has a history of backpacking, and snow skis he he can.

Mary Helen Taylor- Advancement Chair

Mary Helen comes from a scouting family.  Both of her brothers are Eagle Scouts and her dad is a former Scoutmaster.  She knew that she would introduce her son to scouting as soon as he was old enough to join.  She did not anticipate how much she would become involved as a volunteer.  She served on the Pack 505 Committee as Pack Trainer and joined the Etiwan District Commissioner Staff, where she currently serves as Roundtable Commissioner.  She completed Wood Badge Course S5-550-14-1 as a member of the Fox Patrol.  She served on staff of Wood Badge Course 
S5-550-16-1 as a Guide for the Bobwhite Patrol.  She has served as the volunteer coordinator for the Sea Spot Run Fishing Tournament for 3 years.
She received the District Award of Merit in February of 2016 for her outstanding service in the District and dedication to scouting.

Mary Helen joined troop 529 when her son Merritt bridged over in 2015 and has been very involved in the committee.

Sheri LaForge - Communications and Public Relation

Sheri LaForge helps on our committee as the Communications Chair with the Charter Org.  She joined our committee when her son bridged over from cub scouts. She works very closely with St. Benedict Parish to inform them on troop's activities and events. She loves to write and puts announcements in the church bulletin.  Sheri is a member of St. Benedict Parish.  She is also a Religous Ed. Teacher.  Her and her husband Scott live in Mount Pleasant and have four children, Jessica, Erica, Justin and Elana.  She also home schools her children till high school.
