February 8th 2015
February 8th is Scout Sunday, which celebrates the 102nd birthday of the Boy Scouts of America. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about Boy Scout Troop 342. St. Vincent de Paul Parish is our charter organization and we have been partners with the Parish for more than 51 years. In 2014 we were recognized as the District Troop of the Year.
We serve our community by conducting service projects at State Parks we camp at. We recently cleared Scotch Broom from some fields at Fort Worden State Park. We have done graves maintenance for veterans and when the annual Fall Festivals occurs, you can count on us being there to help.
We have been active in the life of the Parish mostly through our relationships with the Parish Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council #7528. If you attended the annual crab feed hosted by the Knights this year or last year, you may have seen us helping out. We have done other service projects with the Knights to help repay the kindness and support we receive from the Parish. We are serving a pancake breakfast after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Mass on the 8th. Come say hello!
Boy Scouting is a family friendly activity. Parents are welcome at meetings and often volunteer to help. Parents, siblings and friends are welcome to attend some of our monthly outdoor activities. These include things like hiking, camping, canoeing, land navigation, first aid and marksmanship skills. Boys tell me they enjoy the outdoor activities and the opportunity to camp, learn and make new friends.
If you would like to talk to me about the Troop and how we might help a boy you know, please call my cell at 206-498-6745, My email is Robert.email@example.com.
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Troop 342
